Jamchester 2016 A Massive Success

UK’s Biggest Ever Game Jam for Professionals Announces Winners

23rd May 2016, Manchester, UK: The UK’s biggest ever game jam for professionals took place in Manchester this weekend, bringing together more than 200 people across three days to create brand new games from the ground up.

“Wow what an amazing weekend! We had 39 games produced and the consensus it was the highest quality game jam submissions people had ever seen. This goes to show the depth of creative talent in Manchester and across the UK.” Jamchester co-organiser Simon Smith

The intriguing theme chosen by the judges was “You already won”. We had 39 games submitted from the competing teams including “Best In Show” (Torque Studios) where you play as both ends of a prize-winning pantomime cow, “Great Wall Of Trump” a Donald Trump Mexican wall building game (Silo Games), and Last Man Standing (Clever Beans).

VR was a major theme of the event with Microsoft sponsoring a “Best Windows VR Game” category that saw 15 entries including a “Russian Roulette Clean-up” game from Desk Dragons, becoming a blind superhero in Holydedral using Windows Phone VR, and winners Sigtrap Games making a 2-player ‘crystal maze’ style game.

Overall Best Game and Best Audio Design were won by Acid Nerve featuring Angus Dick (developers of the hit game Titan Souls) with their game “Head Home”.

All the games are available to play at jamchester.devpost.com

“Chillingo is thrilled to see so many brilliant developers participate in Jamchester and to support such a unique event close to home.” Andy Needham, Head of Studio at Jamchester sponsor Chillingo

The first major game jam of its kind to take place in Britain, ‘Jamchester’ is the brainchild of local games industry network Gameopolis and HackManchester, which has successfully hosted scores of 24 hour coding competitions over the last five years. Jamchester was also supported by headline sponsors Microsoft, mobile publishing giant Chillingo and regional business accelerator Tech North. Other sponsors lined up include PlayStation, Unreal, recruitment agency Amiqus, and local game development college SSR.

“We are honoured to have been chosen as the charity partner for Jamchester. It will raise vital funds and awareness of our work helping gamers with disabilities, both in the north west and across the UK. As demand grows for what we do, support from events like Jamchester really are a game changer for the charity.” Nick Streeter of Special Effect
